- Your marketing preference and a record of any consent.

Technical information
When you begin a membership application, we retain the source IP address, complete landing and requested-page URLs, available referral URLs, timestamps, browser and device information, and selected request headers. We set a secure, first-party applicant cookie for up to 12 months so recognised return visits can be linked to your application record and our authorised reviewer can see when and how the application journey was revisited. The cookie contains only an opaque random value. Credential values in confirmation, access, invitation and withdrawal links are removed before a URL is retained.
This first-party application record is separate from our public website analytics. On a mobile device, public analytics run in memory only and no analytics cookie is set. On a desktop device, we ask for your consent before setting a single analytics cookie; declining keeps public analytics memory-only there too.
A dating profile and the preferences associated with it may reveal information about a person’s sex life or sexual orientation. We treat this as sensitive information and apply additional protections to it.
3. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- receive, confirm and review membership applications;
- understand an applicant’s acquisition source and recognised returns during the application journey;
- create accounts and operate profiles;
- provide discovery, introductions and member messaging;
- offer visibility, contact and privacy controls;
- perform and display the result of verification checks;
- review photos, reports, appeals and safety concerns;
- prevent fraud, abuse, unauthorised access and repeat bans;
- send necessary service and application communications;
- send news and marketing only where you have chosen to receive it;
- understand and improve the public website and service; and
- meet legal, regulatory and record-keeping obligations.
We do not use a solely automated process to approve membership applications. Automated signals may identify something for attention, but a person makes the membership decision.
4. Lawful bases
Depending on the activity, we rely on:
- Contract and steps before contract
- To process a membership request, operate an account and provide the services a member asks us to provide.
- Consent
- For optional marketing and, where required, processing sensitive profile, preference, photo and messaging information. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.
- Legitimate interests
- To protect Aurelia and its members, review applications, prevent fraud and abuse, support users, secure the service and understand basic service performance, balanced against your rights and expectations.
- Legal obligation
- Where we must retain, disclose or otherwise process information to comply with applicable law.
6. How long we keep information
We keep personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purpose for which it was collected, including safety, dispute and legal requirements.
- Unconfirmed membership requests are removed after the confirmation period expires.
- Confirmed requests and applications are kept while they remain active and for a limited period needed to administer decisions, invitations and reapplications.
- Linked acquisition and visit history is kept with the relevant request or application and is deleted when that record is deleted, subject to lawful exceptions. The applicant-recognition cookie expires after no more than 12 months.
- Active profiles, approved photos and conversations are kept while the account remains open.
- Verification results and relevant dates may be kept, but Aurelia does not retain identity documents or photo-verification captures.
- Reports, appeals and related evidence are kept as long as needed for the case and legitimate legal or safety obligations.
- When an account is deleted, active profile data is removed from the service and deletion across connected systems is targeted within 30 days, subject to backups and lawful exceptions.
- After a ban, a protected identifier may be retained to identify attempted returns. It is not used as an active profile.
7. Your choices and rights
Depending on the circumstances and the law that applies, you may ask us to:
- provide a copy of your personal information;
- correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
- delete information;
- restrict or object to particular uses;
- provide information you supplied in a portable format; or
- withdraw consent at any time.
You can also unsubscribe from marketing without affecting a membership request or essential service messages. We may need to verify your identity before completing a rights request.
If you have a concern, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
8. Security and age restriction
We use organisational and technical measures intended to protect personal information. No online service can promise absolute security, so members should also protect their login and avoid sharing sensitive personal or financial information.
Aurelia is for adults aged 18 and over. If you believe a person under 18 has supplied information to us, contact us so we can investigate and remove it where appropriate.
9. Changes and contact
We may update this notice when the service, our providers or the law changes. The date at the top shows the latest revision. Material changes will be brought to affected users’ attention where appropriate.
